Krispy Kreme Doughnuts were started in Akron.

False - On July 13, 1937, Vernon Rudolph started selling doughnuts to local grocery stores in what is today, historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Akron can claim one of the first franchises though.  The Maple Street Krispy Kreme store opened in 1939 and is the oldest continuously operating franchise in the county.
